You need to take extra precautions when you are packing your electronics before you move from one home to another. This article discusses some helpful tips that inexperienced people can implement in order to protect their valuable electronics during removals.

Pick Boxes Carefully

The packing boxes into which you place your electronics play a big role in protecting those items. It is preferable to use the boxes in which you bought those gadgets. However, some people discard the boxes after unpacking the new electronics. In that case, pick a strong box that is just slightly bigger than the electronic item you intend to pack. That limited extra room will be sufficient for any padding materials, such as foam inserts, which you will use to cushion the electronics. Seal the bottom of the box and make sure that the flaps are defect-free.

Label the Disconnected Wires

It is advisable for you to use your phone to take photos of each cable and where it goes before you disconnect the cables from your electronics. Those pictures will be helpful to you when it is time to unpack and reconnect the electronics once you reach your home. You can also use colour codes to distinguish the cables that go on one gadget from those that belong to another item. For example, you can use a red ribbon to secure the rolled cables taken from the TV, while blue ribbons can be used for the home theatre system.

Remove the Batteries

Another precaution that you should implement is to remove the batteries from all electronics during the packing process. Otherwise, the batteries may leak and damage your gadgets. Removing the batteries also prevents a situation in which the gadget overheads after being left on accidentally.

Monitor the Temperature

Refer to the manual of each of your electronics and find out the recommended temperature range that should be maintained when that item is being stored or transported. Make sure that you place the electronics in a section of the vehicle where the temperature will not exceed that appropriate range. Alternatively, you can select a moving time when the temperature is least likely to rise beyond the safe level. For example, setting off late in the afternoon can ensure that the temperature inside the moving truck will not rise to harmful levels while the electronics are in the truck.
